Vegetable tanning was the most common method before the 20th century. It uses extracts found in vegetable matter like, tree bark leaves, fruits, berries, roots and wood. Historically, each country would use whatever tannin was locally available. Different species differentiate the overall look of the tan. Our Tanners use 'gambier', which creates a nude tone.
